About Ofuna Flower Center
Officially the Kanagawa Prefectural Ofuna Flower Center (branded and operated as Hibiya-Kadan Ofuna Flower Center), this botanical garden is known for seasonal blooms - peonies, Japanese irises, and roses among them. It's about a 16-minute walk from Ofuna Station's west exit, and an easy walk from our property too, so you don't need a car to get there.
Autumn Highlights: Roses, Maples, and Ginkgo
The rose garden holds around 350 varieties and 1,200 plants, and blooms twice a year - mid-May to early July, and again mid-October to mid-November. Autumn roses are often said to have deeper color and a stronger scent than their spring counterparts, and the cooler weather makes for a more comfortable stroll through the garden. By November, the maples and ginkgo trees start turning too - the Ofuna area's foliage typically peaks from late November to early December - so in some years the tail end of the autumn rose bloom overlaps with the first signs of fall color.
Hours, Admission, and Access
Opening hours are 9:00-17:00 from March through October, and 9:00-16:00 from November through February. It's closed on the second and fourth Monday of each month (the following day instead, if that Monday is a holiday) and over the New Year period (December 29 - January 3). Admission is ¥400 for adults 20 and up, ¥150 for high schoolers and those 65+, ¥200 for students under 20, and free for junior high age and under as well as visitors with disabilities. The address is 1018 Okamoto, Kamakura, about a 16-minute walk from Ofuna Station's west exit.
